Earliest Flowering Clematis

The earliest-flowering Clematis produce flowers on woody, climbing vines that form buds the prior year and remain dormant until spring, when temperatures and daylight hours coax them into flowering. This category includes atragene, armandii and montana Clematis and various evergreen species. These perennial flowers are usually small to medium ranging from 2-3" across, and often bloom in pastel colors although brighter pinks and even reds are available. Some plants will have sporadic flowering later in the season.
